The 2008 Honda CRF450X is a 449 cc four-stroke off-road motorcycle with a liquid-cooled, carbureted SOHC single, electric start and kickstarter, and a wide-ratio five-speed transmission. Its aluminum perimeter frame carries a 47 mm inverted Showa cartridge fork with 12.4 in of travel and a Pro-Link Showa rear shock with 12.3 in. An 18-inch rear wheel, stock skid plate, spark arrester and LED taillight suit trail, enduro, racing and desert-racing use.

For 2008, updates included a Honda Progressive Steering Damper, new 22 mm-offset triple clamps, lighter brake discs, a Dunlop D742FA front tire, a narrower fuel tank and seat, a lighter decompression system, and revised carburetor settings with a new accelerator pump. The CRF450X also has a 1.9 gal fuel capacity and a 37.9 in seat height.

Who it's for

This bike suits experienced off-road riders who want a 450 cc machine for trail riding, enduro, racing or desert-racing. Its 37.9 in seat height and 269-pound curb weight make it a substantial bike to manage, especially on tight or technical trails, so it is a poor fit for beginners or riders who need a lower, lighter motorcycle. It is off-road use only, not a choice for riders seeking a street-legal bike.
